Total eclipse view prediction from Orion on the Moon far side alignment

April 4, 2026Janna Levin

Janna Levin notes Artemis II's far-side geometry should align Sun and Moon to give the crew a total eclipse view with the corona visible, a rare observational moment enabled by the lunar flyby trajectory.

While on the far side of the Moon, the orbit of the Orion capsule will just happen to align with the Sun and the Moon, treating the Artemis astronauts to a total eclipse.
The Sun's corona will be visible.
Should be spectacular.
