Reid Wiseman Earth photo with auroras and zodiacal light

April 3, 2026Robin Seemangal, Jason Major, Elysia Segal

Robin Seemangal and Jason Major spotlight a standout Earth image taken by Artemis II commander Reid Wiseman after translunar injection, calling out visible auroras and zodiacal light and comparing it to iconic Blue Marble-style imagery.

Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman took this picture of Earth from the Orion spacecraft’s window after completing the translunar injection burn.
There are two auroras (top right and bottom left), and zodiacal light (bottom right) is visible as the Earth eclipses the Sun.
This could easily be our newest "Blue Marble" photo.
