April 3, 2026r/nasa

In r-nasa, a highly upvoted thread identifies the mysterious Houston consoles as DVICE systems for mission control voice loops, clarifying how many channels and roles are managed during operations.

NASA Houston folks Can you advise as to what these machines are for?
DVICE, its what Houston uses for their comms voice loops.
It'll have a ton of buttons on it that can be configured to display different positions voice loops as well as the space to ground loops.
By 'loop' I mean essentially an audio channel that anyone that has it on can listen or talk on.
There are dozens of different channels for different contexts or communicating about particular subjects.
