Anthropic OpenClaw subscription terms enforcement and OpenClaw cutoff

April 7, 2026Kevin Lee, Marc Köhlbrugge, Dmytro Krasun

Marc Köhlbrugge and Dmytro Krasun argue Anthropic cutting off OpenClaw from Claude subscriptions ends subsidized tokens, forcing builders to confront real costs and prioritize token efficiency, while OpenAI moves the opposite direction by supporting OpenClaw usage.

It took Anthropic’s OpenClaw Max subscription patch to show me the stark and growing difference between OpenAI and Anthropic models.
This is why I’m actually excited about Anthropic enforcing their subscription terms of service
Now that OpenClaw (and tools like it) are no longer using subsidized tokens we see the real costs
Claude subscribers can no longer use their subscription with OpenClaw, but OpenAI acquires and encourages its usage.
