Heart digital twins to guide ventricular tachycardia ablation

April 1, 2026Eric Topol, NEJM

Eric Topol and NEJM describe using patient-specific 3D digital twins to plan VT ablation, with a feasibility study reporting noninducible VT in all patients and most free of recurrence at follow-up.

Cool use of digital twins: First we have seen for patients having successful catheter ablation of their heart arrhythmia (VT) by first working on their twin 3D replica before the patient.
In a 10-patient feasibility study, heart digital twins were used to guide VT ablation.
Afterward, VT was noninducible in all patients; at a mean follow-up of 13 months, 8 patients were free of recurrence, without drug therapy.
