Entitled and abusive patient behavior toward ED staff

April 5, 2026r/emergencymedicine

In r emergencymedicine, high-engagement stories center on patients who are rude to everyone and make unreasonable demands, with staff framing it as a common ED dynamic that erodes morale.

The full meal tray is the cherry on top and makes me laugh at the absurdness of this entitled patient.
Omg, I had a very similar patient like that who was an absolute b**** to everyone....including the cleaners, kitchen staff & volunteers!
"if you have a problem with every single staff member here, don't you think you are the problem?"
What a strange lil' guy. I don't know what else to say, other than everyone here has met a patient like this.
