Recovering a lost 2013 Bitcoin wallet and avoiding risky steps

April 4, 2026r/Bitcoin

In r/Bitcoin, a recovery thread focuses on careful forensics for an old wallet, warning against random reinstalls and clarifying that Tor was just an access method while wallet files likely live on the original drive.

If this is real, I’d honestly slow down and be very careful here, because it’s easy to make things worse when dealing with old wallets.
The wallet itself wouldn’t “live” in TOR, TOR was just how they accessed stuff.
I’d focus on finding wallet files or backups on that original machine before trying random installs on a new one.
Update on lost BTC wallet from 2013 - which way to proceed?
There are apparently two wallets that were available on TOR at that time: Electrum and Coinwallet.
